Parliamentarians Mr.Muthu Sivalingam and Mr.M.S.Sellasamy of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) Monday evening handed over their resignation letters to Mr.W.J.S.Karunaretna, Secretary to the President from the ministry posts. Mr.Muthu Sivalingam was holding the post of Minister of Community Development and Estate Sector Infrastructure and Mr.Sellasamy the post of Deputy Minister.
However, Mr.Faizer Mustapha, rebel parliamentarian of the CWC is still holding the post of Deputy Minister for Tourism against the decision of the CWC leadership, sources said. The leadership of the CWC last week decided to support the UNP presidential nominee Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe instead of ruling party candidate Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse. CWC leader Mr.Arumugam Thondaman at a press briefing last week announced that his party would withdraw its support to the UPFA government and two CWC ministers would tender their resignation to President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge once she returned home from abroad.
