Wickremasinghe begins election campaign in NorthEast

Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe, presidential candidate of the opposition United National Party (UNP) Friday began his election tour in the Northeast province, with first rally in Vavuniya town. Mr.Noordeen Mashor, former Minister and Vanni District Sri Lanka Muslim Congress organizer presided the meeting held at Vavuniya Urban Council grounds Friday afternoon.

Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe is scheduled to address election rallies in Batticaloa and Amparai Saturday where the SLMC leader Mr.Rauff Hakim and his party activists are in charge of his election campaign, sources said. Mr. Wickremasinghe is scheduled to address an election rally in Trincomalee central bus stand Sunday morning around 11.30 a.m. and thereafter in Muttur, Kinniya and Kantalai in the Trincomalee district, UNP sources in the eastern port town said.  Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe and Mr.Rauff Hakim, leader of the SLMC on the stage.

 Security was tightened in areas sourrounding Urban Council grounds. Armed Sri Lanka Army soldiers and sniffer dogs were deployed.
