"Tin bomb" diffused in Colombo

A "tin bomb" was discovered and diffused by the Sri Lanka Army soldiers on Ferguson Road, Colombo-15, Sunday morning, police said. The detonator of the bomb, with a 50 meters long wire, was disconnected by the bomb squad of the Sri Lanka Army, relocated to Modera beach and exploded. The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
The bomb squad of the Sri Lanka Army rushed to the spot following a tip-off from a three-wheeler-driver to the head of the Buddhist vihara in the area, Police said. The bomb, found 300 meters from the SLA camp in the area, contained C-4 type of explosive and bicycle bolts, according to the police sources. Sri Lanka Army soldiers and the police launched a house-to-house search operation in the area following the incident, Modera police said.
