CitiHope, first recipient of TRO-USA's Katrina fund

CitiHope International, an Andes, New York, based humanitarian relief and development service agency is the first recipient of Katrina relief donation from the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO-USA), President Dr Ranjithan told TamilNet. "We chose CitiHope, as members of TRO's Board of Directors have noted its impressive work in Sri Lanka's tsunami effort and also the organization has a low, less than 1%, operational overhead," Dr Ranjithan said.

A check for US $12,500 was given to the Head of CitiHope, Paul S Moore, who visited Washington D.C and talked to TRO officials before collecting the check, according to Dr Ranjithan.

The details of CitiHope's activities to help Katrina victims can be seen at CitiHope's website.

"Our board is looking at the credentials and suitability of other organizations to select a second organization to give the other 50% of TRO's pledged support to Katrina victims," TRO's president said.

CitiHope shipped and distributed US$3m worth of medicines to Sri Lanka. "Jeremy Rinker, Paul Moore Jr and Matt Krizton, three members of our organization worked for a period of 3 months after tsunami to ensure that needed medicines reached people of Sri Lanka, especially to the people in the Northeastern coast. They made arrangements to clear the medical cargo from Sri Lanka's customs and shipped them to needed hospitals in the NorthEast and other parts of Sri Lanka," said Mr Moore when TamilNet contacted him to obtain details of his organization's work in Sri Lanka.
