Grenade attack on Police in Jaffna, one killed, 3 wounded

A Policeman was killed and three were injured near Kandarmadam Junction on Palaly Road, 2 km north of Jaffna town, Monday around 7.00 p.m. Unidentified men lobbed a grenade on a Police Jeep killing its driver and wounding the three policemen.
The killed policeman, identified as Mr. Lalith, was the driver of the vehicle, Police said. The 3 policemen injured in the incident, Mr. A.J. Nishankamalara, 34, K.W. Gunawardene, 33, and R.P. Piyadasa, 45, were admitted to Jaffna Hospital, medical sources said. Civilian travellers at the site were beaten up by the policemen and the soldiers following the incident, civilian sources said. This is the third grenade attack to be reported in Jaffna within the last 24 hours.
