Halo Trust to resume Jaffna demining operations Monday

Non-Governmental Organization, Halo trust, which suspended its demining operations in Jaffna following the theft of two of their vehicles, announced Friday that it will be resuming its operations from Monday, 9 January, officials of the NGO said.

Officials of Halo trust Friday afternoon brought back to the Organization's premises located on Nallur Cross Street more than 65 of its vehicles and demining equipments which were held inside the High Security Zone (HSZ) on 29 December under the security of the Sri Lanka armed forces.

Halo Trust has informed its more than 400 employees to report for work on Monday and to participate in a parade to be held at 9 a.m., sources said. This gesture by the Halo Trust eases the economic burden on nearly 2000 members belonging to the 400 families who were badly affected by the sudden termination of work, affected family members said.

Halo Trust administrative officials told TamilNet that although some of the stolen equipment were not recovered after the theft in December, they don't expect robberies or any other disruption to Halo Trust's operation in the future.
