SLAF squadron leader killed

Nine Airforce personnel, including a squadron leader, were killed and five wounded when a landmine exploded under the jeep they were travelling in at Puthur, west of Kanakarayankulam, in the Vanni around 4.50 p.m. today, ex-militant sources in Europe told TamilNet.

Elsewhere, one policeman, who was driving a jeep was killed when suspected members of the Liberation Tigers lobbed a grenade at the jeep in Kalmunai in the eastern province, around 6.30 p.m. today the sources added.

Three policemen, including a sub-inspector were also wounded in this attack.
