'Excavate mass graves' - NGO Consortium

The NGO Consortium of Jaffna has told the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka's Jaffna office, that not only should unauthorised graves at Chemmani be excavated, but mass graves in other parts of Jaffna too should be opened, said sources in Jaffna.

Expectations of finding the bodies of 'disappeared' have risen in the minds of the public since one of the accused in the Krishanthi Kumaraswamy rape and murder case alleged that there were mass graves at Chemmani, the place where Krishanthi Kumaraswamy's body was found.

Meanwhile, the Mission for Peace and Harmony, which is dominated by Roman Catholic clerics, said that all faiths should come together and appeal to Sri Lanka President Chandrika Kumaratunga to investigate the matter of the mass graves at Chemmani, said sources.
