Appointments to Jaffna local bodies

The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) has appointed 80 persons as substitutes to the members of the local bodies in the Jaffna peninsula whose seats were rendered vacant because they failed to take the oath of office within three months of local government elections, said sources in Jaffna.

The Commissioner of Elections had written to the political parties to appoint substitutes for those who had failed to take oaths.

But the EPDP, which had to appoint 156 persons to fill vacancies was delaying in appointing substitutes.

Meanwhile, the Democratic People's Liberation Front (DPLF) has to appoint 29 persons, while 18 have to be appointed by the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), to fill the vacancies occurring in the seats won by their candidates but who had not taken oaths, said sources.
