Gowrimuhunthan, Kantharoopan appointed chairmen to Trinco Councils

Councilors who have secured the first two places in the preferential votes in the Trincomalee Urban Council (UC) and the Trincomalee Town and Gravets Pradesiya Sabah (PS) on behalf of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) are to be appointed as the Chairman and Vice Chairman. Accordingly Mr.Subramaniam Gowrimuhunthan and Mr. Kanthasamy Selvarajah are to be appointed Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Trincomalee UC and Mr. Thangavelautham Kantharoopan and Mr.Vellaithamby Sureshkumar as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Trincomalee PS respectively, ITAK sources said.

Mr.Gowrimuhunthan polled the highest preferential votes with 6115 and Mr Selvarajah became second with 5994 in the Trinco UC election. Mr.Kantharoopan polled the highest preferential votes with 3306 and Mr. Sureshkumar came second with 3113 votes, sources said.

ITAK at the local elections held Thursday wrested control of the Trinco UC with ten seats out of 12 and Trinco PS with six seats out of nine, sources said.

ITAK General Secretary Mr.Mavai Senathirajah, Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian, will inform the Assistant Commissioner of Elections, Trincomalee district before 7th April the names of councilors for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman for the Trinco UC and Trinco PS, ITAK sources said.

Mr.M.S.M.Bandara Mapa, Trincomalee District Assistant Commissioner of Elections has written to all general secretaries of political parties and leaders of independent groups, which captured the administrations of the elected local authorities to inform the nominees for the posts of chairman and vice chairman of the respective councils before April 7th in order gazette such appointments in time as all elected local authorities in the country are to be constituted before April 15th, sources said.
