JHU seeking political partner?

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), the all monk, extremist Buddhist Sinhala nationalist party, routed in the local council elections polling less than one percent, is to join a political party with similar political policies, sources in Colombo said. However, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe, JHU media spokesman, rejected this news as pure speculation, sources added.
4442 members have been elected for the 226 local authorities in the March 30th polls in which JHU secured only 12 seats. JHU, contesting elections for the first time in the Mirigama Predesha Sabah and receiving its highest number of votes (3050) , failed to capture any seat. All twelve seats won by JHU had a turnover of less than two thousand votes, political observers pointed out. JHU media spokesman, N. S. Warnasinghe said that though his party had polled less, it had been able to promote party activities at the village level.
