PNM demands ouster of Norway

Patriotic National Movement (PNM), an alliance of extreme Sinhala nationalists formed and backed by the Janatha Vimukthi Permamuna (JVP), a coalition ally of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, held a protest campaign in front of the Norwegian Embassy in Ward Place, Colombo from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Friday demanding the ouster of Norway from Sri Lanka's Peace Process, civil society sources in Colombo said.

JVP propaganda secretary and the party's parliamentary group leader, Wimal Weerawanse, several Buddhist monks, and JVP, PNM supporters attended the protest, sources said. Protesters carried placards with slogans including "Norway getout, don't rob our patroleum resources," and "Oust White Tiger Norway." Security was strengthened with additional Police officers in the area surrounding the Norwegian embassy, sources said. Vehicular traffic was severely affected in Colombo 7 area for nearly 2 hours.
