Gang attacks TNA MP's car in Trincomalee

Mr. N.Raviraj, Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA)
parliamentarian Tuesday evening made a complaint at the Kantalai Police that his car was attacked with stones by a gang at Abeyapura, a suburb in Trincomalee town when he was returning after attending the funeral of Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil People's
Forum (TDTPF), police sources said.
This incident took place Tuesday evening at about 6 p.m. at Abeyapura,
a Sinhala settlement where a gang had stopped the car in which Mr.Raviraj
was traveling to Trincomalee town. The front glass panes of
the car were damaged. Mr.Raviraj and his two security officers who are
Sinhala police officers sustained injuries in the attack. Immediately
Mr.Raviraj
proceeded towards Kantalai and lodged a complaint, police sources said. Meanwhile Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district TNA parliamentarian
brought to the notice of Mr.Rohan Abeyagunawardene, Deputy Inspector
General of Police (east region) of the attack, sources said. The Uppuveli Police have arrested two persons in this regard. Mr.Raviraj
was given police escort from Kantalai to Habarana to proceed to Colombo Earlier on the day the Trincomalee Police deployed a riot squad with tear
gas canisters at Abeyapura junction to quell any disturbance on receipt of
information that a gang had planned to disrupt the funeral procession of
late Mr.V.Vigneswaran, sources said.
