SLA trooper wounded in grenade attack in Chavakachcheri

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was injured in a granade attack on a road post near Chavakachcheri Hindu College on the A-9 high way in the Thenmaradchi sector of the Jaffna peninsula at 1.30 p.m., Saturday. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka armed forces and police have stepped up security measures in Jaffna, sources said.
SLA troops opend fire following the grenade attack and assaulted civilian by pedestrians, sources said. Sri Lanka Army and police police personnel are stationed in key junctions of Jaffna town and Chavakachcheri, and are conducting thorough searches of bicycles, motor bikes frequently delaying the passengers several hours, according to the sources. Several hundred troops positioned near Ariyakulam junction, Vembadi junction, Kankesanturai road and Kasthuriar road junctions, and in areas surrounding the media offices in Navalar patrolling the areas and checking passersby, sources in Jaffna said. Normalcy has been affected in Jaffna town area, and tension prevails in the peninsula, sources added.
