Attack on NGO office in Trincomalee condemned

Pattalipuram Poonchcholai Peoples Development Organization (PPDO) in Muttur east Sunday in a statement said that it condemned the attack on the office of the Trincomalee District Youth Development Aham (TDYDA), a non-governmental organization functioning in the district for the last nine years and implementing humanitarian development projects in areas where the government has failed to provide such assistance.

The headquarters of the TDYDA located in Mihindupra, a suburb, about three km off east port town on Trincomalee-Anuradhapura Road and its properties were completely burned down by a group of thugs when violence broke out in the suburbs of Trincomalee town Friday, sources said.

PPPDO severely condemned the attack at a time when non-governmental organizations are actively engaged in providing humanitarian assistance to victims of war and natural disaster in the Trincomalee district.
