Young boy succumbs to Claymore shock wounds

A 16-year old boy, who was standing outside his house succumbed to his shock wounds, caused by a Claymore mine explosion outside his house in Chavakacheri. A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was wounded in the explosion. Two civilians were wounded when SLA soldiers opened fire after the explosion, civilian sources said. The Claymore explosion took place, 200 meters from the SLA Chavakacheri Command (52 Division) on Post office road in Chavakachcheri, around 9 a.m., Monday.

The dead body of the 16-year old school boy, Atputharasa Sureshkumar, who succumbed to his wounds after the Claymore attack outside his house, is lying at Jaffna Hospital.

The other two wounded civilians, Krishnan Thiruchelvam, 30, and Sivapalan Thileepan, 35, are admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of Jaffna teaching hospital, medical sources said.

SLA sources in Colombo, claimed that the troops who were engaged in road clearing operation detected an explosive device and fired at it, causing the casualities.

On Sunday, SLA soldiers cordoned off and searched Mattuvil area, in Thenmaradchi region, where a Claymore attack took place.

Villagers were summoned to Mattuvil Mahavidyalayam school from Sunday noon till 9:00 p.m., civilian sources said.
