Resettlement problem in Jaffna

Resettlement of displaced people has been prohibited in forty four Grama Seveka divisions of the Jaffna Peninsula said officials of the Jaffna Katchcheri.

Thirty of these divisions come under the Thellipalai Divisional Secretary (DS), seven under the Maruthankerny DS, one under the Kopay DS, four under the Sandilippay DS and two under the Nallur DS, they added.

In Ariyalai East, Nallur DS, 150 families are living on roadsides and under trees as they cannot be resettled in their homes. Many of the families had been living in houses between Colombuthurai and Navanthurai but had to leave when the owners of the houses returned.

A member of one of the families said that they had brought the matter to the attention of local officials but nothing had been done.
