Sammanthurai PS Chairman takes oaths

New elected twelve-member Sammanthurai Pradesiya Council (PS) in the Amparai district began functioning from Tuesday with Mr. M.I.M.Mansoor taking oaths as the Chairman and Mr.M.Thambikandu as his deputy. Mr. Hassan
Ali, Parliamentarian and the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) administered oaths for the eight members of the SLMC elected to the council in the United National Party ticket. Four members of
the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) were absent, sources said.
Mr.Nijamudeen, SLMC parliamentarian and Mr.H.M.S.Harees, former SLMC parliamentarian attended the event. Mr.M.S.A.Peermohamed Thamby, Assistant Commissioner of Local Government (ACLG) and Mr.P.M.M.Subair, Sammanthurai PS Secretary also participated in the event. Mr.Mansoor said his administration would extend all assistance to the newly carved out Navithanveli PS from the Sammanthurai PS to develop its area. Election to the Navithanveli PS is to be held on May 20 and its
administration office was opened on Monday. At the commencement of the event, all eight members of the ruling party were taken in a procession from the Sammanthurai Jumma Mosque after
prayers. Large number of people participated, sources said.
