EPDP cadre gunned down in Batticaloa market

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a senior paramilitary cadre of Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) at Batticaloa public market around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Batticaloa police said.
Gunmen have used 9 mm handgun to gun down the victim. He was hit by 6 bullets in his head and abdomen, Police said. The EPDP cadre, Sellathurai Sivakumar, 33, is from New Boundary Road, Urani. Sivakumar had gone to market to purchase grocery items to the Batticaloa office of the EPDP, Police said. Sivakumar, a father of 3 children, had re-joined the group after being abroad in middle east for two years. Batticaloa Assistant Magistrate S. Sinnaiyah visited the site and ordered Batticaloa Police to conduct investigations into the killing.
