Local NGOs distribute relief to affected Trinco traders

Tamil Rehabilitation (TRO) and Lanka Evangelical Alliance Development Service (LEADS) Friday distributed one hundred thousand rupees worth food and household materials to affected traders whose businesses in the bazaar of east port city were affected by violence on April 12 evening following a bomb explosion. The Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Trincomalee District had said the attack on businesses of Tamils and Muslims was a pre-mediated, sources said.

The relief materials were handed over at an event held Friday morning in the office of the TRO Trincomalee district secretariat, TRO officials said. Thirty-two business houses were burnt and damaged during the violence. Relief materials were distributed to twenty-six traders. TRO supplied rice and other food materials. The LEADS handed over household appliances and related materials. Mr.V.Kalaivarnan, TRO Trincomalee district project officer and Mr.
Y.Wimalathasan, Field Officer on behalf Mr.S.Jeyarajah, District Manager, LEADS, distributed the materials to beneficiaries, sources said.
