Body of Tamil youth found in Barathipuram

The body of a Tamil youth with gunshot injuries was found near Barathipuram, close to Mihindapura along Trincomalee- Anuradhapura road about 4 km off northwest of Trincomalee town Saturday morning around 6 a.m. by the Uppuveli Police officers who were on a road patrol, police sources said. The Uppuveli Police immediately removed the body to the Trincomalee general hospital mortuary.

The death youth was identified as Batchcha of Kanniya by his mother. He was employed as a cook in an eating-house in the area, sources said

Police sources said the attackers had brought the body to Barathipuram after murdering him in another location the same night.

Barathipuram and Mihindupra come under the Uppuveli Police Division.

The body was dumped at the site where an unidentified person had lobbed a hand grenade on a passing police vehicle Friday afternoon. The grenade missed the target and damaged a bus plying between Vavuniya and Trincomalee.

Three police divisions-Trincomalee town and gravets, Uppuveli and Chinabay have been under night curfew since April 12 following the bomb explosion and violence by Sinhala mobs in the Trincomalee bazaar area.
