Funny behaviour punished

It was summery justice at the hands of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for a young man of Oorelu, Jaffna, who had made advances to a woman of the area, said sources in Jaffna.

The woman, who had found his behaviour distasteful, used her connections with the SLA at Oorelu camp to report the matter to the military authorities.

The SLA caught the young man, T. Kannan, stripped him of his shirt and tied a card around his neck on which was written "tried to act funny with a woman".

He was asked to stand thus before the Oorelu SLA camp between 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Friday.
