Trinco violence damage to businesses said Rs 152m

Mr.R.Rajarammohan, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Trincomalee District (CCITD) in a report to the Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Bank states that the loss incurred to thirty two business houses in April 12 violence is Rs: 1,52,233,002, sources said. SME Bank comes under the Investment Promotion and National Enterprise Ministry.

Mr.Rajarammohan who is a leading businessman in the Trincomalee district has also sustained heavy loss in his trade, which was completely destroyed with his four lorries and a newly bought car in the Trincomalee violence, CCITD sources said.

Stocks worth Rs: 90168002 had been destroyed and damages caused to vehicles had been estimated to be Rs: 3375000, totaling Rupees: 93,543,002.

Losses from direct business had been estimated Rs: 32,700,000and damages caused to buildings at Rs: 20,850,000 and houses Rs: 5,140,000 totaling Rs: 58,690,000.

CCITD report did not include the damages caused to Hatton National Bank (HNB) Trincomalee main branch and fuel pumps and office premises of the Trincomalee MPCS, which also had been affected by the violence.

According to HNB Northern Regional Manager Mr.A.V.Beadle, the administration needed about one million rupees to repair the two-storied building of the bank damaged in the violence. Damages caused to vehicles and motorbikes of bank officials and workers had been estimated around 2.5 million rupees, he added.
