Mr.K.Pathmanathan, Amparai district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Monday appealed to chairman and councilors of the Alaiyadivembu Pradesiya Sabah (PS) to work hard by exerting pressure on relevant authorities to construct permanent houses to resettle tsunami affected coastal families without any further delay, sources said.
Mr.Pathmanathan addressed the PS chairman and councilors after the first meeting of the PS held Monday in its office, sources said. Mr.Pathmanathan said soon after the tsunami disaster, several non-governmental organizations came forward to construct permanent houses. Each NGO said that it was going to construct 1000 houses, five hundred houses and so on. Those NGOs are not seen in the Amparai district. The worst affected Amparai district needs about ten thousand permanent houses. However it is sad to say that even five hundred permanent houses have not been constructed till this month. He brought to the notice of local councilors that tsunami affected families now living in temporary huts and tent houses are facing several difficulties including degeneration of their moral values. It is high time for the society to take steps to shift them to proper permanent houses to safeguard their future and their cultural values, he said.
