ITAK takes over Trinco Town PS administration

Nine members of the Trincomalee Town and Gravets Pradesiya Sabah (PS) took oaths Monday morning at the PS office located in Chelvanayakapuram in Uppuveli police division, about four km off north of port city. Mr.T.Thiruchenthilnathan, President of the Trincomalee Bar Association and Justice of Peace first administered oaths to the Chairman, Mr.Thangavelautham Kantharoopan followed by Mr.Vellaithamby Sureshkumar, Vice Chairman and other seven members.

Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi (ITAK) captured six of the nine seats in the Trincomalee Town and Gravets PS, United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) two seats and United National Party one seat.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Eelam Peoples Democratic Front (EPDP) did not get a seat as these parties failed to poll one-fifth of the total votes in the elections held on March 30th.

ITAK appointed the first two members who obtained highest preferential votes for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Names of the other four ITAK members are: Mr.Ramalingam Wijendran, Mr. Kandiah Jeyakantharajah, Mr.Subramaniam Shanmugalingam and Mr.Thillaimapalam Balasubramaniam

Mr.S.M.Zeinudeen and Mr.Kappugdera Muthubanda of the UPFA and Mr.Kapila Sudhantha Kalupahana of the UNP also took oaths on the same day with ITAK councilors, sources said.

Mr. Muthubanda, UPFA councilor spoke in Sinhala and Tamil in the event and chairman and other councilors in Tamil.

Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district parliamentarian, Mr. S.Gowrimuhunthan, Trincomalee UC Chairman, Vice Chairman Mr.K.Selvarasa, Regional Assistant Commissioner of Local Government Mr.K.Gunanathan, former special commissioner of the PS Mr.Ravindran and Mr.S.Jesuthasan, TNA participated in the event.
