Police, SLA cordon, search in Batticaloa villages

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police rounded up and searched Kallady, Kallady Velore, Thiruchenthur and Dutchbar in Kathankuddy police division in Batticaloa from 5.30 a.m to 12 p.m Thursday morning, taking 10 persons to the Kathankuddy police station for further inquiries, said the police.

The police and the SLA troopers thoroughly searched all houses, checking identity cards and inspecting the houses for suspicious items.

The ten men taken to the police station were released after initial inquiries, added the police.

Many areas in Batticaloa are being subjected to intensive roundup searches by the armed forces since last month, Batticaloa residents said.
