SLMM yet to inspect the crime site, Jaffna TNA MP complains

"Almost 30 hours have passed since a crime against humanity has taken place at a temple site. The truce monitors from the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Jaffna are yet to visit the crime site or approach the area where the bodies are said to be found," accused S. Gajendran, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP for Jaffna district. The SLMM officials have explained that the delay was caused due to the lack of resources. There was no translator or driver available for the SLMM to visit the sites, according to the Director of the Peace Secretariat of the Liberation Tigers, Mr. S. Puleedevan, who said the SLMM delay was "too late."

"It is only the SLMM which is capable of doing anything meaningful in the circumstance," described the TNA MP pointing at the imposed curfew that has totally blocked any civilian access to the site where bodies of the killed persons are found.

Meanwhile, the Director of Liberation Tigers Peace Secretariat, S. Puleedevan, when contacted by TamilNet said that the Tigers have brought the matter to the attention of both the SLMM and the Norwegian Ambassador in Colombo.

"The SLMM officials have explained that they were unable to visit the sites so far due to the lack of a translator and driver," Mr. Puleedevan said adding that SLMM delay was "too late."
