Emerging pattern of agenda in attacks on TNA MP offices - Batticaloa MP

"The office of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), belonging to Vanni District Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan, was attacked on May 13, 2006. Then the office of the Jaffna MP, S. Kajendran's located in the International Students Association(ISATE) complex was attacked.These attacks could not be explained as arbitrary "acts of violence" by the Head of Sri Lankan Military, the Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse himself or anyone in the government," slammed Batticaloa MP of Tamil National Alliance (TNA), S. Jeyanandamoorthy Monday.

"This is not only a military agenda, there is also a political purpose behind the attacks that are ordered by the top brass.

"The pattern comes to light when attacks are being carried out in different districts at the same time with the active involvement of the Sri Lankan forces," the Batticaloa MP noted.

The Batticaloa MP also voiced against the shell attack by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers on the re-settled Tamil villagers in Eravur to the District SLA and Police officials, saying:" The midnight shell attack on the Eravur residents has caused panic and anxiety among them and six of them have been seriously injured while some of their houses have been damaged."

"I also suspect political motives for the SLA attack on Eravur Tamil re-settlement because the candidates of the ruling coalition in the Pradeshiya Sabah (PS) polls have shown extraordinary interest in releasing some youths arrested in the search operations. Armed forces are used to arrest and the politicians were used to release in a game to woo support," added Jeyanandamoorthy.

"The residents of this village, located on the fringe of the Sinhalese settlements, have been badly affected during the recent violence and had fled. They are resettling in their village now and this attack when normalcy of life is gradually returning, not only creates dissatisfaction but suspicion too," observed the TNA MP.
