Grenade explosion kills Tamil woman in Thampalakamam

Ms Jeyamalar Sakthikumar, 31, of Thamplakamam was killed Wednesday early morning around 1 a.m. when unidentified persons lobbed a grenade into their house located at Kovilady near the historic Aathi Koneswaram Temple, said Thampalakamam police sources.

Initial inquiry revealed that a group of unidentified persons had knocked the doors of the house. When no one responded, they had lobbed a grenade into the house through the roof, sources said.

The body of the dead woman was lying in the mortuary of the Thampalakamam government hospital and the postmortem examination is to be held at Kantalai hospital later, sources said.

Thampalakamam, a traditional Tamil village is located about 26 km southwest of Trincomalee town along Trincomalee-Colombo highway.
