Policeman shot dead in Kallady, Battticaloa

An unidentified gunman shot dead a police constable Arokiam Prasanna 40, attached to Batticaloa police station Thursday afternoon around 3.45 p.m., close to Kallady Pillayar temple, located 2 km south of Batticaloa town, said Batticaloa police.

The unidentified gunman had followed Prasanna, a Tamil, and shot him dead as he was riding on his bicycle to Kallady Pillaiyar temple after night duty at the police station. The gunman escaped from the site immediately, added the sources.

His body was taken to Batticaloa hospital morgue.
