Media minister faces confidence test

A motion of no confidence brought against the media minister Mr. Mangala Samaraweere by the main opposition party, the Unite National Prty (UNP) was rejected in the Sri Lankan Parliament today. One hundred and twenty two members voted against the motion and eighty voted for it.
The UNP National List parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne submitted the motion on behalf of the UNP. The MPs of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP), People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) voted against the motion said sources. Mr. Mangala Samaraweere is embroiled in a scandal whereby his credit card bills are alleged to have been paid by a Japanese business man.
