Three NorthEast families receive medical assistance

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), through its special medical service unit, during the last two weeks, provided financial assistance of Rs. 570K to three disadvantaged families in the NorthEast to facilitate the sick members to undergo costly medical treatment, officials of the TRO said. TRO is a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered with the Government of Sri Lanka and is engaged in rehabilitation work mainly in the north east.

Mr Balakumar, 23, from Maravanpulo in Thenmaradchy district, is suffering from a bone-marrow illness for the last twelve months. As the eldest of the family his daily income as a laborer supported the family.

Director at the TRO Kilinochchi office, Mr Thirugnanasampanthamoorthy, gave the family Rs.100,000 at 1:00 p.m. on 22 June in the TRO Secretariat, to assist Balakumar to undergo medical treatment.

7 month old Pavison Mahendran from Thevipuram in Mullaitivu district requires urgent heart surgery. TRO's Deputy Executive Director, Ravichandran, presented Rs 70,000 at 11:00 a.m. on 29 June to the family to help with medical expenses.

In Yogapuram in Mallavi Mullaitivu district, Jeyarajah couple's 2 month old son Jenoson is afflicted with a heart ailment that requires heart surgery. The family has been severely affected by the war and lives below the poverty line on daily income earned by Jeyarajah as a laborer.

TRO's Planning Director, Lawrence Christie and TRO co-ordinator of Foreign Offices, Mr Parameswaran, gave the family Rs 400,000 at 12:00 on 1st July to enable Jenoson to undergo heart surgery, TRO officials said.
