Emergency regulations to be challenged

Mr. Vimal Weeravansa, the propaganda secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, JVP, (People's Liberation Front), said that his party would legally challenge the government's decision to postpone the Provincial Council Elections.
He said the final decision would be taken at a joint meeting of the leftist parties. Meanwhile the Deputy Minister of transport and Highways, Mr. Senevaratne while speaking during the debate on the extension of emergency regulations yesterday, blamed the JVP for using this to gain political advantages. "There is no opposition among the people regarding the extension of the emergency regulations to the entire island. Only those who are looking for some political gains oppose the postponement of the PC elections", he said. "Today the JVP is opposing the postponement of the elections. They are the people who threatened the people with murder if they voted in the elections", he said further.
