About fifty volunteers Tuesday commenced fasting in front of
Kalkudah Zonal education office located in Valaichchenai on rotation basis Wednesday morning around 8 am,
demanding permanent appointment, sources in Batticaloa said. Batticaloa District Volunteer Teachers Association (BDVTA) has organized the campaign, sources said.
The normal working the Kalkudah Zonal Education Office has not been affected due to protest fast, sources said. BDVTA spokesman said members of his association have not been provided with permanent appointment although they were selected through a difficult
interview process and are serving as volunteer teachers more
than a decade. No restriction should be imposed in granting permanent appointment to volunteer teachers, he added. Education authorities decided to grant permanent appointments to volunteer teachers in Amparai district after they held fasting protest recently, sources said.
