Eachchilampathu IDP families' woes spotlighted

The deteriorating welfare of the internally displaced people (IDP) now sheltered in Eachchilampathu was discussed in meeting attended by Divisional Secretary Mr.V.Umamaheswaran and representatives of national and international non-governmental organizations held on Wednesday morning in Eachchilampathu Sri Shembaga Vidiyalyam, sources said.
Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head also participated in the discussion. Elilan urged the NGO workers to expedite their relief works and also to construct temporary shelters for these IDP families, sources said. Several hundred Tamil families displaced from LTTE held Muttur east following aerial and artillery fire by the State armed forces, and those displaced from Thanganagar, Killiveddy, Aathiamankerni in the government controlled area following killing of Tamil civilians by home guards and soldiers, are now residing in public buildings and with their relatives in the LTTE held Eachchilampathu division. NGO workers were advised at the discussion to provide health and sanitation facilities to these families.
