Swedish Envoy meets LTTE Political Head

"The International Community should exert pressure on Colombo to put an immediate end to military campaign in occupied Tamil territories, respect the status-quo, implement the CFA and engage in talks," LTTE's Political Head S. P. Thamilchelvan told media after meeting Swedish Envoy Anders Oljelund at LTTE's Political Secretariat in Kilinochchi Friday. "The International Community should identify the one-sided exercises - the All Party Conference and the so-called expert panel - that are aimed at diverting attention from the real issues at stake," he further said.



There is no change in the stand of the Liberation Tigers, expressed in the post-EU ban scenario, with regards to the engagement of EU Member States, Mr. Thamilchelvan told media.

The LTTE had extended their initial suggestion of one month time frame to make necessary changes in the composition of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) till September 01.

"The Swedish Envoy was briefed in detail on our already expressed policies and stand," Thamilchelvan further said.

"Unbiased neutrality between the parties to the conflict was fundamental in choosing Nordic countries for the peace monitoring in the first place," LTTE's Political Head told media.

"The International Community should exert pressure on Colombo to put an immediate end to the extra-judicial killings and the harassment in occupied areas. The status-quo in talks must be respected."

"The International Community should identify the hidden agenda behind the re-staging of the All Party Conference and the one-sided expert panel," Thamilchelvan has told Oljelund.

The Swedish envoy did not bring any special message from Colombo.
