Young woman shot dead in Jaffna town

A young woman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, in front of Nathan cinema at Kanthapasegaram road in the Jaffna town centre, around 1:15 p.m., Friday, police said.

The victim was identified as Murukaiah Sukirtha,2 5, a mother of a child. She is from Naatholai, Ilavalai, the sources said.

Additional Magistrate Srinithi Nandasegaran visited the site and ordered the police to hand over the body to the morgue at the Jaffna Teaching hospital.

SLA troops cordoned off the area and conducted a search. However, no arrests were made, TamilNet sources said.
