A 68-year old man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his house, located in Urani, Puttur East, Friday night.
Two motorbike-riding gunmen asked the victim, Valli Krishnan, to come out of his house around 9:30 p.m. Friday and gunned him down, residents said. Mallakam Magistrate Mrs. Sarojini Ilankovan visited the crime scene Saturday morning and ordered the Police to investigate into the killing. Puttur East is located 15 km northeast of Jaffna town, in Valikamam East sector of the Jaffna district. A terror campaign was let loose on civilians in Puttur in October 2005, and April 2006 by the Sri Lanka Army troopers. Friday's killing has taken place near the site where five civilians were gunned down allegedly by Sri Lanka Army soldiers in April.
