Men in white van abduct fisherman in Pt.Pedro

A young fisherman was abducted by armed persons in a white van in Pt.Pedro in the Vadamaradchi sector of the Jaffna peninsula, around 8.30 a.m, Saturday, local residents said.
Justine Cruz, 35, was riding in a bicycle along the College road in Point Pedro when he was abducted. Local residents, on hearing a man shouting for help, arrived at the spot and saw a white van speeding away. "The men in the van were armed and they threatened to shoot us," an eyewitness told TamilNet. Cruz is a fisherman and a father of three. He was displaced from Myliddy High Security Zone (HSZ) demarcated by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA). Cruz's wife has made a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC). In January 2006 two de-mining workers attached to Danish De-Mining Group (DDG) were abducted by men in white van. In May 2006 a saloon owner was abducted. Human Rights Commission sources said their whereabouts of all the above abudcted are not known.
