Bodies of two Tamil youths recovered in Thirukovil

Thirukovil Police recovered bullet riddled bodies of two Tamil youths at Kalappu area in Porakalappu, Vinayagapuram in Thirukovil Monday morning around 8:00 a.m. The bodies have been identified as belonging to Kandiah Thivakaran, 21, a mason by
profession of Kali Kovil Road of Vinayagapuram and Jeyapragasam Jeyaraj, 23, a labourer, civil sources said.
The bodies were handed over to their relatives after
post-mortem examination held in Thirukovil government hospital. Further
inquiries are being conducted by the Thirukovil Police, sources said. Meanwhile, two Tamil youths, Kumaranayagam Sasikaran, 23, and Manoharan
Rajendran, 22, were warded first in the Akkaraipattu government hospital
with gunshot injuries and then transferred to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital
for further treatment. Both youths who are tractor drivers by profession
had sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place Sunday
midnight around 12 in the vicinity of Thirukovil Sithira Velauthar Temple
where the annual festival was being held, civil sources said. In the meantime, at least four hand grenades were detonated Monday morning
before the water cutting festival of the temple commenced in the sea shore
located close to the temple. Shooting incident and hand grenade explosion
have caused tension in Thirukovil village since Sunday night, sources said.
