SLA soldier killed in Mannar firefight

One Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed when unidentified gunmen, waiting in ambush, fired at a group of soldiers at Kaddaiadampan along Mannar-Madawachchi main road at 2:15 p.m. Monday, sources said.
The firefight ensued for about half an hour. Soldier W.D.P.C.Priyatharshana who was seriously wounded succumbed to injuries on admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Mannar general hospital, hospital sources said. Mr.T.J.Pirapaharan, Additional Mannar Magistrate inspected the body of the soldier at the Mannar general hospital. He directed the Police to hand over the body to the Kaddaiadampan army camp after post-mortem examinations and instructed the Murunkan Police to submit a report on the incident to the court on July 27, legal sources said. Kaddaiadampan is located about 25 km off east of Mannar town in the Murunkan police division.
