Eravur Muslims protest

Large number of Muslims participated in a demonstration held Friday afternoon after Jumma prayers in Eravur Jamiul Akbar Mosque in Batticaloa district from 1.30 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. condemning the indiscriminate attack by the State of Israel on Lebanon and Palestine, sources said.

Demonstrators went in a procession from Kattupalli Road to Divisional Secretariat office of Eravur shouting slogans and carrying placards calling the international community not to allow the massacre of Muslims and asking the United Nations where its human rights charter has gone.

Protestors also demanded the United States of America to stop its policy of supporting the massacre of Muslims by the State of Israel, sources said.

The effigy of Mr.George W.Bush, USA President and the national flags of State of Israel and USA were burnt at the end of the demonstration. A memorandum addressed to the UN Secretary General Mr.Koffi Annan was handed over to Eravur Divisional Secretary Mr.M.S.Musamil.

The demonstration was organized by the Eravur Islamic Centre, Eravur Traders' Association, Eravur Fisheries Society, Eravur three-wheelers Association and Eravur Workers Union, sources said.
