Trader shot dead in Kattankudy

A shop owner was shot and killed Friday at around 2 a.m. in Thalankuda in the Kattankudy PC division, said sources in Batticaloa. The trader was sleeping in his shop at Thalankuda main road when unknown gunmen using a 9mm pistol fired at him and escaped, Batticaloa sources said.

Victim was identified as Maniam Nallaiya, 47.

Motivations for the killing are not clear, Kattankudy Police said.

Maniam who owned the business, was living in the shop premises with his wife and three children, said sources.

The body of Maniam has been taken to the Batticaloa hospital for postmortem examinations.

Thalankudah is located 9 km southeast of Batticaloa.
