Journalist abducted on Gale Road

A prominent journalist and author, Mr. Mathusoothanan, is reported to have been abducted by unidentified persons on August 26 at around 6.00 p.m. The incident happened while he was walking along the Gale road in Bampalapittiye with his two friends, Dr. Arasu and Dr.Rasanayagam, both visiting professors from Tamil Nadu.
As they walked past the seminary on Gale Road, a man wearing white T-shirt and blue jeans manhandled Mr. Mathusoothanan into a jeep that had been parked nearby, said his friends. They further said that when they pleaded the abductor to let their friend go, he had shouted in English not to approach. There were several persons in the jeep in military uniforms, they said. Sources said that complaints have been made to the police authorities in Bampalapittiya, Wellawathe and Kirulapane, and that police in these areas have denied arresting Mr. Mathusoothanan. Meanwhile, four persons working at the Palmyra Development Corporation in Bampalapittiya, and fourteen persons employed in a restaurant in the Katpagam building have been arrested by the Bampalapittiya police said sources.
