IDPs face food and accommodation problems in Vaharai

The Internally Displaced People (IDP) staying at the Palsenai Government Tamil Mixed School in Vaharai division in the LTTE controlled area in Batticaloa District have been facing food and accommodation problems, Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Vaharai branch said on Wednesday.
Though Sri Lankan Army (SLA) allows limited food convoys to Vaharai area, but denies permission to take tents and other materials for temporary shelter, the sources further said. However, TRO, Vaharai branch has been providing the IDPs with cooked meals. Around 500 families fled from Muttur East area in Trincomalee districtto Vaharai, Kathiraveli and Palsenai following aerial bombardment by Sri Lanka troops, have been provided shelter accommodated in this school. Now these IDPs have started to move out to areas such as Kiran, Santhiveli, Eravur and Batticaloa in the government controlled territory due to shortage of food and non-availability of adequate sheltering facilities. Meanwhile, Mr.K.Mahesan, Batticaloa Additional Government Agent said about 45.000 people from 11.000 families from Trincomalee have sought refuge in Batticaloa due to war.
