Armed men shot dead a Tamil youth, a child in Anpuvallipuram

A Tamil youth and a child were killed and three others including a woman were injured when unidentified armed men opened fire at them Sunday afternoon around 2.30 p.m. in a house located along Ambal Road in Anpuvallipuram, a suburb located about three km off south west of Trincomalee town.

Unidentified armed men came in a van and had entered the house and started firing at the inmates who were watching a television programme and had fled from the area, according to initial investigation carried out by the Uppuveli Police.

One Tamil youth and a child died on the spot and the injured were admitted to the in Trincomalee hospital. One of the injured has been warded in the intensive care unit in critical condition, police said.

The Uppuveli Police rushed to the site and began inquiries.
