Civilian movement restricted

The Sri Lankan security forces banned the movement of civilians from the Akkaraippattu, Thirukkovil and Pottuvil areas in the south eastern part of the Ampara district to the Kanjikudichcha Aaron jungles yesterday.

No further details about the ban on the movement of civilians were available.

However, informed sources said that suspected positions of the Liberation Tigers in the large jungles of Kanjikudichcha Aaron are being bombed by the SLAF.

Residents in the Tamil village of Thirukkovil said that they could see SLAF aircraft flying towards the region and could hear explosions in the direction of the jungles.

Informed sources said that this is part of an ongoing military effort in the east to weaken the LTTE's logistics in that province.
