Claymore explosion seriously injures two SLA troopers in Jaffna

Two Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers were seriously injured in a claymore mine attack by unidentified men on a SLA road patrol unit on Thursday morning in the Valigamam East region in the Jaffna peninsula.

Following the attack, the SLA launched a massive cordon and search operation in Atchuveli, Navakiri and Nilavarai closing all roads in the region from Thursday morning till the afternoon during which unidentified young men also lobbed a hand grenade on the SLA troopers engaged in the search. The attackers escaped although the SLA opened fire on them and it is not known whether any of them were injured.

Meanwhile SLA sources told that one of their men was injured in the hand grenade attack.
