Tamil woman shot dead in Valaichchenai

A Tamil women was shot dead by unidentified men at Pillayar Kovil Junction in Peththalai, about 32 km. north of Batticaloa, around 4:30 p.m., Thursday.

Yaso Rajendran, 33, was accompanying her brother in an auto-rikshaw, who was on his way to Colombo to leave the country, Friday.

The gumen, waiting at the Veerayadi Pillayar Kovil Junction in Peththalai, forced the vehicle to stop and opened fire.

Yaso's brother escaped unhurt, civilian sources said.

The victim's body was taken to the Valaichchenai District hospital for post-mortem and the Valaichchenai Police is conducting further investigation.
