Police constable shot dead in Pothuvil

Unidentified armed men shot dead a police constable attached to Pothuvil police station Monday around 9:00 a.m at Rottai region in Pothuvil, Amparai district and escaped from the site on the victim's motor cycle, Pothuvil police said.

The victim was identified as Sellathamby Thiruchelvam, 38, and father of two children.

He was shot at with a pistol while riding on his motorcycle to Pothuvil police station from his home at Oorani in Pothuvil, added the source.

The victim's dead body has been taken to Akkaraipattu hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.

Rottai is a village located 4 km north to Pothuvil, a town in the Amparai district.
